Helen

Helen came to Wheels 4 Fun following a Stroke which left her unable to ride a bike though she did have a rather snazzy looking one and some very trendy accessories! (see below)

Helen’s ambition was to be able to ride her bike again so she could use it to go to the shops and we could see she was serious by all the baskets and panniers her bike was adorned with!

Helen claimed she lacked confidence but it didn’t take her long to get going, initially on a tricycle, then a balance bike (a fancy name for a small ladies bike with no pedals where you have your feet on the ground!) and in no time she was riding down the path to our session.

Next thing we know she’s joining us at the Space 4 Cycling event in Leeds City Centre and helping us with publicity – looking ‘glam’ in an amazing dress made specially for the occasion from a duvet of all things – see below!

Helen has now bought an electric bike so she can extend her range and rode all the way from Crossgates to Meanwood to join our Wheels 4 Fun pre Christmas drinks in December. As you can see she was well wrapped up for the chilly day; no duvet dresses this time!

Helen was featured on Alan Carr and Melanie Sykes New Year’s Eve Radio 2 show reflecting on her achievements; have a listen at 1 hour 23 minutes 35 seconds at  http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b09jrlpm

Helen is now celebrating her latest achievement – cycling 200 miles in May – for which she was awarded the medal you can see in the pictures above. Well done Helen!
